2012 Cannes Film Festival Predictions: Atiq Rahimi’s The Patience Stone

Date:

Gist: Co-written (along with Jean-Claude Carrière) and directed by the author himself, Atiq Rahimi’s best seller novel adds a little mythology to the real war backdrop of Afghanistan and follows the plight of a wife, played by Golshifteh Farahani (About Elly, Chicken with Plums) who becomes a widow of sorts — plenty of suffering and independence are on this menu.

Prediction: I’m feeling that a politically charged/middle-east/women’s issues type of film certainly has its place and it should follow in the footsteps of a Where Do We Go Now? and gain entry into the Un Certain Regard section.
