The Banshees of Inisherin

Officially five features into his feature filmmaking career, The Banshees of Inisherin was meant to begin production in 2020 but that was delayed until August of 2021. Filmed in Ireland, Martin McDonagh re-enlisted Colin Farrell (who appeared in the filmmaker’s In Bruges, Seven Psychopaths), Brendan Gleeson (who appeared in short McDonagh’s Six Shooter, In Bruges), Kerry Condon (worked on McDonagh’s award-winning third picture Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri) and first-timer Barry Keoghan onboard what will be a comedy about verbal argument pushes come to shove. The film score is provided by Carter Burwell.

Gist: This is the story of a pair of lifelong friends on a remote Irish island who find themselves at an awkward time in their relationship when one of them no longer wants to be friends.

Release Date/Prediction: There’s a multitude of options here for the Searchlight folks but we think they’ll attempt something for the fall festival circuit with Telluride, Venice, TIFF, NYFF.
