Top 200 Most Anticipated Foreign Films of 2023: #175. Robert Morgan’s Stopmotion

Published on

Stopmotion

A shorts film filmmaker more than two decades into his filmography, Robert Morgan made the big move into feature film terrain with actress Aisling Franciosi (from The Nightingale fame) for a portrait on loss, creation and making a bit too much room for the people who speak inside our heads. Stopmotion‘s producers include BlueLight’s Alain de la Mata + Christopher Granier-Deferre.

Gist: This tells the story of stop-motion animator named Ella Blake who is struggling to control her demons after the loss of her overbearing mother, who embarks upon the creation of a film that becomes the battleground for her sanity. As Ella’s mind starts to fracture, the characters in her project take on a life of their own.

Release Date/Prediction: A genre item worthy of a major film fest premiere, this could slide into a Cannes sidebar showing in Un Certain Regard or Directors Fortnight.
