Cannes Critics’ Panel Day 11: Jeff Nichols’ Mud

Date:

In only his third outing, Jeff Nichols has pretty much made a name for himself – it began with Shotgun Stories (2007) at the Berlin Film Festival and then really picked up with a Sundance-Cannes Critics’ Week showing for Take Shelter last year. Presented as the last of options of the heavily programmed American films in the Main Competition, it appears as if Thierry saved the best for last as Mud, a Dixie set drama with Tye Sheridan toplining alongside Matthew McConaughey and first time actor Jacob Lofland — Reese Witherspoon barely has a supporting role. Our critics’ appear to be big on the title – it’s currently rating among our tops.
