Based on a short proof of concept project of the same name, Minhal Baig will be among the fresh voices leading the way in progressive stances in cinema with U.S. Dramatic Competition selected Hala being a key example of Sundance Film Fest’s woke stance. Containing biographical elements, her sophomore feature plunges into intracultural disputes but it is the Muslim-American teenage girl experience at the forefront with a relatable, determined protagonist via Geraldine Viswanatha.
Perhaps void in style, this is nonetheless an important text and post screening offered one of the more memorable Sundance ’19 moments. Apple picked up the worldwide rights to the drama. Here is the world preem screening.
