Some worthy rentals on DVD/Blu-ray today, we have Cary Joji Fukunaga’s Sin Nombre (77% on Metacritic) which played at Sundance to positive reviews, I raved about it, but unlike a couple of Bens we know, it won’t crack my top 10 this year. Extras include: deleted scenes and a commentary with Fukunaga and the producer who backed him and looks like a genius in Amy Kaufman.
I know that fans of Half Nelson have already supported the theatrical release of Sugar, but I’m hoping that Ryan Fleck’s Sugar (82% on Metacritic) finds a larger demo – the ones who actually watches the sport. The Blu-Ray includes special features that include a making of (Making Sugar: Run the Bases), they talk to baseball players who made the grade (Play Béisbol! The Dominican Dream including interviews with MLB players David Ortiz, Pedro Martinez and Sammy Sosa), a deleted scenes bit and a feature called Casting Sugar: Interview with Algenis Perez Soto.
I’ve been meaning to catch Kevin Macdonald’s State of Play (64% on Metacritic) in theaters, never managed to see it – so this is my chance to catch up on some studio, political thriller fair. It comes equipped with a traditional Making-of and deleted scenes.
If you want a unique POV of the Korean War which Robert Altman during the breakout of the Vietnam War.
