Count Hudson in for ‘Nine’

Although Javier Bardem won’t be joining the cast, the line-up for Rob Marshall‘s take on the Tony Award winning, Fellini Broadway musical Nine is filling up.  The latest player to jump on board is the blonde bombshell of Almost Famous notoriety(who knew she could sing?), Kate Hudson.

According to ComingSoon.net, Hudson will be joining Daniel Day-Lewis and the pic’s ensemble of stellar women, including Judy Dench, Nicole Kidman, Penelope Cruz, Marion Cotillard and Sophia Loren.  Day-Lewis will surely be bringing some Oscar buzz with his take on Guido Contini, the world famous director attempting to balance the plethora of women that fill his life.  Cotillard will be playing his wife, with Cruz as his sexy mistress, Kidman as his muse, Dench as his costume designer and Loren as his mother.  Hudson will be rounding out the cast, playing the role of Stephanie, a young fashion journalist from America.  But perhaps the most memorable woman, Saraghina, the plump prostitute from Guido’s childhood memory, is yet to be cast.

The Weinstein-backed project was adapted from the stage version (which was adapted from the screen, based off of Fellini’s classic 8 1/2) by Michael Tolkin (The Player) and Antony Minghella (The English Patient).  The original Broadway production won five Tony Awards, including Best Musical.  The 2003 Broadway revival, starring Antonio Banderas, won two Tony Awards, including Best Revival of a musical.

Nine begins lensing in October in the UK.

Hudson will appear alongside Dane Cook in the comedy My Best Friend’s Girl, which releases in September.  No stranger to the romantic comedy, Hudson will then appear with Anne Hathaway in January of 2009, when Bride Wars opens in theaters.  Hudson is also attached to the drama Big Eyes, alongside Thomas Haden Church, and A Dream of Red Mansions, both with release dates set for sometime next year.
