John Hurt and Isabel Lucas Become Immortals, Tarsem Project Finally Settles on a Title

Currently in production, Variety has named the final names to be cast (John Hurt and Isabel Lucas) in the epic swirling in Greek mythology, and in the same measure have cleared up this confusing mess of what title the final title will be called. After calling it Dawn of War, and for the longest time, going by the War of the Gods, the trade reveals exactly what the fuss was all about stating that it was too close in nature to the title of the still in development God of War, “another epic about a warrior who battles the Titans of Mount Olympus, in active development at Universal.” The company couldn’t screw around with the title because it is based on a popular video game, so instead of calling this one 400, they’ve gone with “Immortals“.

Regardless what the title is, this should be the sort of studio pic you’ll want to keep an out out for, not because of the dozen or so actors who have signed onto the production, but the talent lensing the film. Uni recently pegged the epic with an 2011-11-11 date, sure to stick in the minds of those awaiting the next sands and swords, gods and warriors, 300-like clash between titans.

John Hurt might be up there in age, but he is an actor in constant use, he’ll be set to portray the earthly manifestation of Zeus, who acts as a mentor and teacher to Theseus, portrayed by Henry Cavill. Lucas, a knockout from Down Under will portray Athena, the daughter of Zeus.

Written by Christian Gudegast based on a script by Charley and Vlas Parlapanides, this a mythological tale concerns the battles waged by Theseus (Cavill), a warrior from Greek mythology, who leads a fight against the imprisoned titans. Among the hooks is that, unlike some mythological tales, gods fight alongside mortals. That moves it into a different historical time than “300” — which concerned the battles of King Leonidas against the Persians. Pinto plays Phaedra, an oracle priestess who must join Theseus.
