Midway Point: Top 10 Most Anticipated Films of 2009: #7. Where the Wild Things Are

We feel for Spike. This film has gone thru post-production hell. Unconfirmed re-shoots, edits, CGI add-ons, etc.

#7. Where the Wild Things Are

Director/Writer: Spike Jonze – co-writer Dave Eggers (Away We Go)
Producers: John B. Carls, Gary Goetzman, Tom Hanks, Vincent Landay and Maurice Sendak
Distributor: Warner Bros.

The GistThis is based on the classic children’s book by Maurice Sendak. Published in 1963, this follows the adventures of Max, a head-strong young boy who leaves home after having a fight with his mother (Catherine Keener) — only to find himself in a mysterious forest bordering a vast sea. Misunderstood and rebellious, Max sets sail to the land of the Wild Things, where mischief reigns. The adventure film will use a unique process to bring the story to life, incorporating the most dynamic elements of voice performance, live-action puppetry and computer animation.

Fact: We feel for Spike. This film has gone thru post-production hell. Unconfirmed re-shoots, edits, CGI add-ons, etc.

Why is it on the list?: The little boy in me wants to see this. Soundtrack looks to be gold. Jim Henson’s shop created the creatures. Jonze is a genius. Great voice cast.

Release Date/Status?: The film is ready and we should see it play at either Venice or TIFF. Warner Bros. are opening this and going head to head (October 16th) with The Road. Check Spike’s blog for updates –
