With Kicked, Bitten and Scratched and her teaming up with fellow countryman Nicole Kidman in Need, I’m not sure how this part will play out for her in the scheme of things, but the folks at Focus Features like her a lot and I wouldn’t be surprised if I’m updating this project in a year or two saying that she is prepping for the role and that Focus are indeed on board. For the time being we can imagine how Naomi Watts might sound like in an 'African' accent – (p.s: it sounds British to North American tourists).
Variety reports that the actress who’ll we’ll next be seeing in the fall releases of Eastern Promises and Funny Games is attached to star in this adaptation for the Bureau of Moving Pictures. Producers Marty Adelstein and Scott Nemes will join the production house in financing We Are All the Same.
Based on the true story of one Gail Johnson, Keir Pearson will adapt the book written by Jim Wooten, who tells the story of a white South African woman who adopted a black child with AIDS, then traveled the world with the child to raise awareness about his plight. Pearson was the co-writer for Hotel Rwanda – a film that completely missed the boat on detailing the genocide from a perspective that didn’t do enough condemning of the outside world. I hope this one makes us feel horrible like a Sally Struthers guilt trip.
