Roadside break their ‘Fall’, land Tarsem’s visual masterpiece

Depending on who you get your info from: The Fall is either an over-ambitious project from a genius commercials director or an uncompromisable visionary backed by people like Spike Jonze and David Fincher. Since it preemed at TIFF in 2006, Tarsem has had a difficult time finding a suitor for domestic release, but finally THR reports that Roadside Attractions have picked up the film rights for a March 08 release.

Without having seen the film (I was furious after realizing I missed the final Cannes market screening)  – this might 'fall' in fantasy film territory  as The Pan's Labyrinth. Inspired by a short, Bulgarian film the director saw at a film festival almost a decade ago – this takes place in a hospital where a young girl (Catinca Untaru) with a broken collarbone meets with an injured stuntman (Lee Pace). The films brings the tale of five heroes who escape from a desert island to life with violent and surreal imagery channeled through the girl's imagination.

Tarsem has currently two projects on the plate, a Sidney Kimmel Ent. political thriller called Unthinkable and the video-game adaptation called The Unforgettable – written by Kurt Sutter and based on the game Condemned: Criminal Origins.
