Seeing Double: Lars And The Real Girl

Published on

Sidney Kimmel Entertainment is providing the web with an early look (stills) at Lars And The Real Girl – a project that we’ve been foaming at the mouth for since we first heard about the interest it generated as an unproduced script like 2 years back. While 1987’s Mannequin sucked, with Ryan Gosling onboard, this might just be one of the better comedies worth the detour. It’s pegged for a Toronto film festival unveiling (IONCINEMA.com will be there to cover the film’s premiere) and will open in select theaters on October 12, 2007 via MGM.

Directed by Craig Gillespie (upcoming Mr. Woodcock) and based on the script by Nancy Oliver, after years of what is almost solitude, Lars (Gosling) invites Bianca, a friend he met on the internet to visit him. He introduces Bianca to his Brother Gus and his wife Karen and they are stunned. They don’t know what to say to Lars or Bianca – because she is a life-size doll, not a real person and he is treating her as though she is alive. They consult the family doctor who explains this is a delusion he’s created – for what reason she doesn’t yet know but they should all go along with it. What follows is an emotional journey for Lars and the people around him.
