Thinkfilm makes a break for it and picks up ‘The Escapist’

Months after the flurry-less (in terms of distributor buys not snow) Sundance film festival, deals are still trickling in and ThinkFilm‘s been filling up their shopping bag with tough, negotiated deals. Following their deals for Phoebe in Wonderland and Momma’s Man, the indie unit claimed their third project The Escapist and have positioned it for an October release.

Rupert Wyatt’ feature film debut (read our interview with him here) has got a great cast of mostly Brit actors and tells the story of Frank Perry (Brian Cox) is an institutionalized convict twelve years into a life sentence without parole. When his estranged daughter falls ill, he is determined he make peace with her before it’s too late. He develops an ingenious escape plan, and recruits a dysfunctional band of escapists – misfits with a mutual dislike for one other but united by their desire to escape their hell hole of an existence. Much of the action takes place within the tunnels, sewers and underground rivers of subterranean London.

The picture was picked up by ThinkFilm for about $1 million.
