#100. Untitled Joaquin Phoenix Mockumentary

Director: Casey Affleck
Writer(s): Affleck and Phoenix
Producers: Unknown.
Distributor: Rights Available.

The Gist: Remember the bizarre red carpet, talk show antics and live rap performances gone bad? This mockumentary sees Joaquin Phoenix’s transition from the acting world to a career as an aspiring rapper.

Cast: Joaquin Phoenix and YOU.

Why is it on the list?: I’m not sure how these brother-in-law’s came up with the concept (perhaps a night of Xbox and booze) but this would take performance art onto new cinema turf. What might become a poignant commentary about celebrity, fandom and actors and public domain entitlement, this takes what Sacha Baron Cohen has been doing to the next level. Talk about an actor truly committing himself to a “part”.

Release Date/Status?: I’m crossing my fingers for a surprise screening at Sundance, but most likely this will break out in the same pattern: at a major film festival and unannounced.
