The Gist: An adaptation of the book which focuses on Billy Beane (Pitt), the general manager of the Oakland Athletics who used a sophisticated computer analysis system to piece together a team that regularly contended for the World Series despite a payroll dramatically lower than such big-market rivals as the New York Yankees. Hill plays Paul Podesta, the stats-happy assistant GM who helped Beane turn the losing team around. Morris will play the second wife of Beane.….(more)

Cast: Brad Pitt, Robin Wright, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Chris Pratt, Kathryn Morris, Tammy Blanchard and Jonah Hill

List Worthy Reasons…They’ve got a pretty good director in Bennett Miller and I’m liking the casting (Philip Seymour Hoffman and Jonah Hill) they did for the film and though I think I might have preferred Soderbergh’s version of the film, I’m still a fan of the Lewis novel and look forward in seeing how a sports dramedy might pan out.

Release Date/Status?: Columbia Pictures releases this after the pennant race (on September 23rd) which makes us think this is headed to a big fest like TIFF and awards season mentions.
