#7. We Need To Talk About Kevin

Director/Writer: Lynne Ramsay
Producers: Jennifer Fox, Luc Roeg and Robert Salerno
Distributor: Rights Available.

The Gist: This is an adaptation of Lionel Shriver’s prize-winning book which follows Kevin (Miller) and his mother, Eva (Swinton). After Kevin goes on a killing spree just days before his 16th birthday, Eva is forced to question whether she ever loved her son and how much she is to blame for what he did…(more)

Cast: Tilda Swinton, Ezra Miller, John C. Reilly

List Worthy Reasons…: No need in blaming her for our chewed up DVD copies of her only two feature films, we learnt that during this almost one full decade absence that she worked on and dropped Alice Sebold’s The Lovely Bones, but I think working from this novel might have been the better trade-off. I’m expecting three exquisite performances in this film, and if Lynne Ramsay places, tests Swinton in the same arduous manner she got the best from Samantha Morton in with Morvern Caller, then we could very well see the Palme d’or for Best Actress going to Swinton. We had this on the list last year in the #10 spot.

Release Date/Status?Some insiders are mentioning Berlin 2011 and some actually thought this was headed to Sundance, I think this received a red carpet invite a long time ago by Cannes’ Thierry Frémaux. Ratcatcher and Morvern Caller both began their lives at this festival.
