#06. The Skin I Live In (La Piel Que Habito)

Director/Writer: Pedro Almodóvar
Producers: Pedro and Augustin Almodóvar
Distributor: Sony Pictures Classics

The Gist: Based on the French novel “Mygale” by Thierry Jonquet, formerly known as “Tarantula”, this tells the story of a man’s revenge driven attack on his daughter’s rapist. A plastic surgeon, he confronts him and performs a sex change operation on him.….(more)

Cast: Antonio Banderas, Elena Anaya, Marisa Paredes

List Worthy Reasons…Those who remember Pedro Almodovar’s earlier work recall that before Penelope and at the same time as Carmen Maura, there was Antonio Banderas. I’m not prepared to call this film as going outside the filmmaker’s comfort zone as jealousy and revenge are frequent themes in his body of work, but this one appears to be siding in somewhat of a different category in his long filmography. I look forward in seeing Elena Anaya’s game face in a Pedro film and of course the habitual qualities that are the make-up of his works such as composer Alberto Iglesias’ involvement.

Release Date/Status?: Big Cannes premiere with major play in the Fall festival season followed by theatrical release somewhere between September and December.
