WIP & Picturehouse get the Axe

Date:

After swallowing up New Line, Warner Bros. has decided to do like all good conglomerates do: downsize, cut costs, save money, etc. Surprisingly, instead of merging Picturehouse and Warner Independent Pictures into one indie/specialty “power” house, WB has cut operations altogether leaving a 24 film slate void for the new breed of indie distributors like Overture, Summit and Senator to fill. Before jetting off into new pastures, Bob Berney of Picturehouse and Polly Cohen of WIP will now be looking at the slate of film projects to be released and that are in development. “After much painstaking analysis, this was a difficult decision to make, but it reflects the reality of a changing marketplace and our need to prudently run our businesses with increased efficiencies. We’re confident that the spirit of independent filmmaking and the opportunity to find and give a voice to new talent will continue to have a presence at Warner Bros.”
