Here is some great news for fans of the long take. Cannes' 2007 Palme d'Or winning director Cristian Mungiu (4 months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days) and Golden Lion winning director Abdellatif Kechiche (La Graine et le mulet) are two of the 18 European co-productions that have received coin from Council of Europe's Eurimages Fund.

Compared with last year, Fortissmo Films come packing with only a single title, but that doesn't mean their sales agent won't be spending pretty much the entire festival from their rented office balcony. I can vouch for a trio of Cannes titles that I have seen in the awesomely disturbing Yorgos Lanthimos' Dogtooth, Mia Hansen-Løve's delicate Le Père de mes Enfants and Cristian Mungiu and co.'s humor-filled look at communism in native Romania in Tales from the Golden Age.
