Lars von Trier’s Next: The ‘Nymphomaniac’

Date:

If the stars do align for certain Cannes V.I.P member filmmakers, 2012’s festival might be one steamy event. We have Gaspar Noe who wants to return to the world of X and if Lars von Trier has it his way, his next project would cause a bigger media storm than the one we are already highly anticipating less than two months from now with Melancholia. Screen reports that the director might go with the idea/title of The Nymphomaniac over Dirt in Bedsores for “a film about a woman’s erotic birth, a woman who discovers her eroticism.”

Naturally the big question is: which actress would be brave enough to sign up for this role? While many would certainly point to Charlotte Gainsbourg, we offer the suggestion of Noomi Rapace – whose best role to date is in a film not many of you have seen in the extremely bleak, 2007 title Daisy Diamond which is as raw as they come in terms of character and performance. It certainly would make for a Scandinavian dream team in front of and behind the lenses. Look for more developments on this project the moment that the world media descends on the Croisette this May (that is, if Melancholia is ready for Cannes).
