2012 Sundance Predictions: Todd Looby’s Be Good

Writer-director Todd Looby has been to Park City before – presenting his 2011 documentary short, Son of None at Sundance’s competing festival, Slamdance. With Amy Seimetz – the hardest working film person in the biz cast with the inclusion of a bit part for Joe Swanberg, Be Good – a low budget DIY dramedy certainly looks, in this era of Go the F**k to Sleep parenting, like comedic material we’d find in Sundance’s NEXT section.

#06. Be Good – Todd Looby

Currently in post (see production update vid here and indiegogo updates here) if not included in the January fest, this example of micro-filmmaking (includes Looby’s infant child as one of the actors) could definitely find a spot in SXSW.

Gist: Paul (Thomas Madden) is 35 year-old independent filmmaker who has achieved moderate success – enough to convince a New York Times Bestselling author to adapt his latest book, but not enough to earn income from his craft. Paul married a fellow idealist in Mary (Amy Seimetz), who has just ended her 6-month maternity leave and returns to work leaving Paul alone with their “spirited” baby, Pearl (Tessa Day Looby).

Producer: Todd Looby
