If The Kids Are All Right For Summer, so is Focus Features’ Beginners

Date:

Taking a page from the positioning they had with The Kids Are All Right on its early July date, Focus Features are in a similar mindset for another smart, thoughtful dramedy. Of course, Beginners was one of the best items offered during TIFF, not Sundance — this means a different strategy might be needed to maintain that buzz from September all the way up until June 3rd. It may mean one more festival appearance before the launch (perhaps Berlin?). Regardless, this is a special film that needs some major TLC.

Mike Mills’ sophomore pic sees Ewan McGregor play a young man rocked by two announcements from his elderly father (Christopher Plummer)…one, that he has terminal cancer, and two, that he’s coming out of the closet. Here’s one portion of the viral coverage taken at TIFF.
