Allison Anders to ‘Smile Now Cry Later’ in the Fall

Date:

Not sure if Echo Park’s gentrification will be part of the storyline, but according to Production Weekly, Allison Anders is in comeback mode form and looking to update the characters in her 1993 film, Mi vida loca. The Latino female driven character drama titled Smile Now Cry Later will begin shooting this Fall with what I imagine will be a batch of returning characters from the original film. Just recently I had mentioned a project attaching Anders to a film going by the title of 6 Foot Rule (not sure if these are two of the same).

The original film (you can check out a behind the scenes montage trailer from Sony Pictures Classics here) told the story of Sad Girl, Mousie and Whisper – street gang girls with plenty of hope and not much of a future. The cinematographer on the 93′ original was no other than Rodrigo García – an established director in his own right who will be presenting his latest film Mother and Child at TIFF next month. Look for open casting calls in he area and perhaps some return cameos from Salma Hayek and Danny Trejo.
