Could I Killed My Mother be headed towards Cannes prestigious Camera d’or award next? On the night of its world premiere it received one of those rare standing ovations where the people are being more than just polite, but sincere, honest and from the heart or gut. It’s a reaction/response that was apparently shared by the juries had the same reaction awarding Xavier Dolan‘s debut feature film with three out of the four awards offered in the Director’s Fortnight section. This bolds especially well for the film in its film festival life (I expect there to be several demands from the film fest circuit) and I wouldn’t be surprised if the picture does find a domestic suitor for the U.S. market. The mother and son portrait won the Art Cinema Award, the Regards Jeunes 2009 Prize and the SACD Prize, while
La Pivellina picked up the Europa Cinemas Label prize for helmers Tizza Covi and Rainer Frimmel.
