We have The Playlist to thank for shedding light on the maligned condition in which David O. Russell’s Nailed has unfortunately found itself in. We knew that Capitol Films the parent company to ThinkFilm struggled to keep creditors happy and paused production on more than one occasion – but I thought production had resumed and the director had stitched some version together as he was attaching himself to several projects. Unlike Margaret (the film is caught in post-production hell), Nailed should never see the day of light because it is, as Playlist describes it “missing key scenes and has been basically abandoned by the principle post-production players.”
Based on the first novel by Kristin Gore entitled “Sammy’s Hill” and written by Russell and Gore, Jessica Biel played Sammy Joyce, a socially awkward small-town receptionist who has a nail accidentally shot into her head by a clumsy workman, eliciting wild sexual urges. James Marsden will play small-town the boyfriend of Biel’s character Alice, a naive waitress who gets a nail shot into her head, causing erratic and outrageous behavior. She heads to Washington to fight for better health care and ends up falling for a clueless new congressman (Jake Gyllenhaal) who must summon the political courage to save her. Catherine Keener would have played a self-serving Congresswoman.
