Variety reports that Celluloid Dreams has taken international sales outside Italy for Marco Bellocchio’s Benito Mussolini biopic. Set to start shooting in April in Northern Italian locations, Vincere will tackle the touchy subject of fascist dictator Benito Mussolini's illegitimate son. Born out of wedlock before Mussolini came to power in 1922, the child was named Benito. Mussolini hid the child and mother, beautician Ida Dalser, in asylums where both died before Mussolini's execution in 1945. Though known to historians, this dark detail about the dictator has never seeped into mainstream Italian culture.
Bellocchio last directed The Wedding Director (2006) and Good Morning, Night (2004).
