There is something sacrireligious about the remake of a film, especially if it is from the hands of the exact same filmmaker, this applies to mostly everyone else unless your name is Michael Haneke. After Sony Pictures Classics profit-making pick-up with last year’s Cache (Hidden), the folks at Warner Independent Pictures are pulling out the checkbook for a multiple territory deal for he rights to Michael Haneke ‘s English-language debut.

Having Naomi Watts on board certaintly helped in corning the buyers’ attention, but how viewers might react to such a shocking essay on violence is apparently not a major concern for the indie division. The original saw two well educated young men, which call each other Paul and Peter amongst other names, approach a German family on vacation. They are, apparently, friends of the neighbours, and at the beginning their real intentions are not known. The new version will take place in the Hamptons with Tim Roth, Michael Pitt, Brady Corbet and Devon Gearhart set to star.

Warner Independent Pictures have an interesting mix of films in the 07’ pipeline. They commence the year with the Billy Bob Thornton-starrer The Astronaut Farmer and fill out the rest of the slate with the Tim Hamilton comedy Mama’s Boy, the delayed Meg Ryan Rom Com
In the Land of Women (directed by Jonathan Kasdan), Mark Klein’s Melissa Bank’s short story adaptation of The Girl’s Guide to Hunting and Fishing and finally Marcos Siega’s drama Chaos Theory.
