‘The Ten’ Shalt Have Twelve

From Charlton Heston to Dudley Moore, the biblical standards set out in Genesis have long been the basis for Hollywood interpretation and visualization. None however have attempted it in quite the same way as David Wain’s (Wet Hot American Summer 2001) new film The Ten. Currently in pre-production, and set to film in Mexico and New York, the film will portray ten stories in an episodic style with a story representing each of the 10 Commandments. Winona Ryder, Franke Jansen, Gretchen Mol, Liev Schreiber, Rob Corddy, Ron Silver and Oliver Platt have all just been announced as joining Jessica Alba, Adam Brady, Ken Marino, Paul Rudd and Justin Theroux on the irreverent comedy written by Wain and Marino for City Lights.

David Wain and Ken Marino each have significant comedic backgrounds as both performers and writers for the SCTV styled troupe “The State”, and Wain was the creator, writer and often star of the Comedy Central series Stella (2005) as well as spending 2000-2001 as a writer for Mad TV. Marino first worked with Wain on the 1993 series You Wrote It, You Watch It and later joined him working with “The State”. Wain’s most significant film project to date was Wet Hot American Summer (2001) a campy teen comedy set at a summer camp in 1981. The film met with mixed reviews, but opened the door for Wain to garner more experience and establish himself firmly as a creative comedic talent. The current project is being produced by City Lights Danny Fisher and Michael Almong. City Lights recent starrer Descent lends to the bringing of greater talent to the set, and one of their earlier credits, John Waters’ A Dirty Shame proves that the production company is not fearful to tread controversial waters. Wain and Marino are also both credited as working on the 2007 release Reno 911!:Miami currently filming.
