Key Players in the Cannes Market: Funny Balloons

Funny Balloons - the French sales company (founded in 03) has created a small niche of repertoire films, and are the folks behind some of my breakout favorites such as Chile's Tony Manero and Mexico's Lake Tahoe (both Cannes products).

Croque Croisette: Big Budget Failures in the Making

This year, the further out east you go, the more eye pollution there seems to be. We've got some horror items that are fighting the hard fight to gain traction --- you got a pic I took of a collage of items from one sales company trying to unload Marcos Efron's horror thriller with Amber Heard in the lead. Croque Croisette: Bouchareb’s Outside the Law and Tavernier’s The Princess of Montpensier

the French one-sheets for Outside the Law - the many faces from Rachid Bouchareb's film were previously part of an ex-quo Best Actor prize for Indigènes. Finally we've got another Main Comp title in Bertrand Tavernier's The Princess of Montpensier - which I'm going to take a wait and see approach and consider it for my final day of screenings on Sunday the 23rd.

Last Minute Loach: Cannes Adds Route Irish

Cannes have announced the 19th film to be part of the Main Competition category - a picture that I had pegged for competition and that as of last week was still in post production. Here is the complete synopsis (a fairly full one if I do say so myself) for Ken Loach's Route Irish.
