Wang Bing Might Make Cannes His New ‘Hometown’

The good news is that Cannes might be the lieu for Wang Bing's first foray into fiction film, the bad news is, at least temporarily, we know next to nothing on his next film project except that: it was first mentioned in 2007's Pusan Promotion Plan during the 2007 Pusan International Film Festival and will probably be produced by Lihong Kang. If Bing continues with the same themes of interest, Hometown should relate back to the subject matter the Chinese filmmaker explored in his previous documentary films such as China's own industrial revolution and new economy or the Cultural Revolution.

It’s Going to Be a ‘Shit Year’ in Cannes

Don't get confused by the headline -- I'm definitely not bashing the cuvée of films that'll be the make up of the 63rd edition, I'm simply mentioning that Cam Archer's much anticipated sophomore feature going by the title that I'm hoping will stick beyond the festival is, according to a sources close to our site, a lock for the festival.

Major Actress to Join Amalric in Satrapi and Paronnaud’s ‘Waiting for Azrael’

With filming set to begin this Summer at the Studio Babelsberg just outside Berlin, Celluloid Dreams has a little leeway and might make the big announcement on the Croisette, the lieu where that Persepolis was launched, that not one, but two actresses that will be signing onto Marjane Satrapi and Vincent Paronnaud's Waiting for Azrael, the book to live-action adaptation of Satrapi's illustrated novel Chicken with Plums.

Cannes 2010: Thierry Fremaux in the Usual Hot Seat

It's T-minus one week and I'm guessing that Thierry Frémaux and the rest of the Cannes' Selection Committee have got about ten more titles to pick in the Main Comp category and perhaps double the number of titles jousting for the final spots - you see, while I'm still speculating on possible titles (I've listed a foursome that includes Nicole Garcia's latest below), I'm guessing that there are some producers/filmmakers that have mentally packed their bags for the event weeks, if not months ago.

Vera Farmiga Has Faith in ‘Higher Ground’

Farmiga will do double duty, making her directorial debut and star in the book to film adaptation of Carolyn Briggs' memoir This Dark World. To be titled Higher Ground, production is expected to begin in June, after Farmiga completes filming in Duncan Jones' Source Code.
