Tracking Shot: Alice Rohrwacher, Justine Triet, Philippe Lesage and Jeff Nichols Shooting in April

“Tracking Shot” is a top of month featurette here on IONCINEMA.com that looks at the projects that are moments away from lensing. The first wave of titles that’ll move into production this month are gunning for a 2027 Cannes Film Festival drop here we find some likely candidates with just that aim. Continuing in their Cannes trajectories and each launching into their fifth feature films with starry casts, we find Alice Rohrwacher‘s book-to-film project — and adaptation of Audrey Niffenegger’s novel Three Incestuous Sisters which will likely explore notions of revenge while Justine Triet returns to huis clos mode with Fonda – with themes of grief and obsession in the DNA (they just added a second wave of cast members). Jeff Nichols moves onto his seventh feature film in his Arkansas backdrop for King Snake with a penchant for the physical and metaphysical in a project that sounds like a cousin to Take Shelter. 28 Hotel Rooms (2012) and Captain Fantastic (2016) filmmaker Matt Ross finally gets going on his third feature – the book to film adaptation of Kockroach involves the criminal underworld, and how we harness the idea of power. Ang Lee re-teams with Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon‘s Zhang Ziyi for Gold Mountain – an adaptation of C. Pam Zhang’s “How Much of These Hills Is Gold,” – this is a journey across the West for adult siblings looking at themes of race, immigration, gender, and belonging. Canadian filmmaker Philippe Lesage of Genesis and Who by Fire, lands on themes of identity and family dynamics with Je veux juste une grande histoire d’amour — and shooting in Spain we are curious about the sophomore project by Nika (a 2022 SXSW Narrative Feature Competition selection) Russian born filmmaker Vasilisa Kuzmina. No Man’s Land is a dystopian thriller (inspired by the Angel Makers of Nagyrév – real events in 1910-1920’s Hungary.
