It was perhaps poetic justice for the “2nd place” Cannes Film Festival winner, as Juliette Binoche who handed out the Palme d’Or to Jafar Panahi’s It Was Just an Accident back in may sort of reversed the order giving Joachim Trier’s feature film sixth award and highest honors of the 2026 European Film Awards with Best European Film award. Trier collect a half dozen statues while Óliver Laxe’s Sirāt was the other big winner of the night winning European Production Designer, European Sound Designer, European Editor, European Casting Director and European Cinematographer.
