Top 100 Most Anticipated American Indie Films of 2018: #84. Nash Edgerton’s Gringo

Gringo

He might have a background in back breaking stunt man work (more than two decades worth), but in our books, this Aussie’s true vocation should be filmmaking as a full time gig. Nash Edgerton broke out big in our books well before his feature length film The Square (our interview with him); it’s his short films with the Blue-Tongue films collective in Spider (2007) and Bear (2011) that impressive, sharp, witty and perfectly tuned. Production on Gringo began in March of 2016 with a rather impressive name cast.

Starring his brother Joel Edgerton, this shuffles the deck David Oyelowo, Amanda Seyfried, Charlize Theron, Yul Vazquez, Thandie Newton, and Sharlto Copley, this pits a mild-mannered American businessman Harold Soyinka (David Oyelowo) against the elements. Crossing the line from citizen to criminal, Harold tangles with duplicitous business partners, Mexican drug lords, international mercenaries, and the DEA. Hopefully Edgerton’s knack for great timing, and surprise unveils will be present here.

Release Date/Prediction: Amazon Studios release the film on March 9th.
