Top 200 Most Anticipated Foreign Films of 2023: #170. Thea Sharrock’s Wicked Little Letters

Date:

Wicked Little Letters

For her third feature film, Thea Sharrock lassoed powerhouses in Olivia Colman and Jessie Buckley along with Anjana Vasan, Timothy Spall, Joanna Scanlan, Hugh Skinner, Malachi Kirby, Gemma Jones, Lolly Adefope, Eileen Atkins and Alisha Weir to essentially play a game of clue. The dramedy is apparently based on a true story. An accomplished English theatre director, directed television before landing on Me Before You (2016) and The One and Only Ivan (2020), Wicked Little Letters is going to be a major calling card for the director. Veteran cinematographer (The Banshees of Inisherin) Ben Davis is onboard. Here is an eye-ful of on set paparazzi shots.

Gist: The residents of Littlehampton begin to receive obscene letters from an unknown source, prompting a group of women to find the source. Buckley will play the fiery Rose Gooding who has little in common with the pious Edith Swan (Colman) aside from them being neighbours in the seaside town of Littlehampton in the 1920’s.

Release Date/Prediction: Toronto and London BFI are likely candidates.
