Cannes Critics’ Panel Day 5: Michael Haneke’s Love

Date:

If the festival would conclude today, Michael Haneke would most likely walk away with his second Palme d’Or win (following 2009’s The White Ribbon) as the critical reaction to Haneke’s now 13th feature film is across the board positive. Starring screen legends Jean-Louis Trintignant, Emmanuelle Riva with a brief supporting role performance from Isabelle Huppert, Love is about what occurs when a loving and lengthy relationship gets tested in the later stages of life. Several 5 star rating were given to the oeuvre which touches upon ageism, compassion, dignity, loss and the most endearing human trait: concern for another. Note: we’ve replaced one jury member who appears to be MIA casualty (it happens to best of us), so now we’ve included Kevin Jagernauth from Indiewire/ThePlaylist. Click to enlarge!
