2024 Sundance Film Festival Predictions: Alex Garland’s Civil War

What better lieu to deliver a possible critical text on regional and political differences that have shaped America for ages than the hotly tipped (and super secretive) fourth feature film by Alex Garland. Even if there might be some sci-fi elements it’s anyone’s guess whether this is tied to 1860s America or not. The British filmmaker with a dedicated fanbase presented us with Ex Machina (2015) and Annihilation (2018). His third feature Men (which premiered on the Croisette in 2022) is considered a companion piece to this new work which goes by the title of Civil War. Production begin in Atlanta in March with the likes of Kirsten Dunst, Wagner Moura, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Cailee Spaeny, Karl Glusman and Sonoya Mizuno. This is an A24 project and they have a lot of films titles they could spread out onto 2024 so it’s anyone’s guess where this gets showcased.
