Filmmaker was originally worried on the public trying to make connections between the actual title names of his last films – inspired by Tolstoy’s War & Peace, his reasoning for using light after darkness perfectly summarizes the journey of the character – who finds something in the end.

Auteur filmmaker prefers to not use codes in his cinema as he respects the savvy public to challenge themselves in figuring out fantasy, the past, the future, and the imagined.

Reygadas’ own children didn’t know that this was a film – they were natural, not acting, being themselves – this is what the filmmaker tries achieve with adults as well.
