20 Sirens of 2005: Part II

10. Tilda Swinton: She starred in a variation of roles with different screen time presence – Constantine, Broken Flowers, Thumbsucker, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe.

What’s next?: This busy-bee will be seen with the Sundance premiere of Stephanie Daley, followed by Michael Clayton, That Man from London, Nico.

Man from London

9. Sienna Miller

The 5 minutes in Layer Cake was enough
to give some of us heart problems and she capped off the year with Casanova.
What’s next? Camille
and a lead role in Factory Girl.

8. Cécile De France

We saw her briefly in The Russian Dolls,
but it is her delicious performance in High Tension
that was worth the mention.
What’s next? Unless you speak French or live in France, you
won,t be seeig much of this actress – whose got a trio of French leads.

7. Keira Knightly

While we won’t necessarily remember her for The
Jacket
, Pure and Domino
– it was her strong performance in Pride & Prejudice
that made her shine.
What’s next? She’ll be back to her swashbuckling ways with
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest.

6. Maria Bello

We got a double dose of Bello in Assault on
Precinct 13
and a very good performance in A
History of Violence
and made a film called The
Sisters
– which has not been distributed.
What’s next? We get to see this underrated actress in 3 films
Thank You for Smoking, Flicka
and Oliver Stone’s 9/11 Paramount Pictures project.

5. Liv Ullmann

She came out of retirement for her return to a character which she played almost
30 plus years ago in Saraband (which
was released a little late by SPC).
What’s next? Knitting boots for her grandchildren? I don,t
epect to see her in anything soon, but let’s hope she returns to directing.

4. Joan Allen

She was a force in The Upside of Anger
and took on some interesting roles in Yes
and Off the Map.
What’s next? I’m not sure what the status are with her next
films – but so far we have The Good Sharma,
Bonneville, The
Bourne Ultimatum
and Pushers Needed
on the horizon.

3. Juilette Binoche

Perhaps France’s best import after wine, this actress picks her
projects while working with some of the best filmmakers around. 05 saw In
My Country
, Bee Season and perhaps
the year’s best performance Cache (Hidden).
What’s next? 06 packs a wallop of Binoche – Les
Disparus
, Breaking and Entering ,
Last Days In September, Mary,
and the short film compilation known as Paris,
je t’aime
.

2. Patricia Clarkson

The true indie queen of the year is this underrated actress who
starred in Miracle, Dogville,
Good Night. And, Good Luck. and a delicious
role in The Dying Gaul.
What’s next? Another busy year will see leftover releases
of All the King’s Men and The
Woods
with perhaps a of these three projects to find itself on screens
at the year end – Blind Date, Small
Tragedy
and Conquistadora.

1. Sarah Silverman

We got a double dose of her on November 11th with the release
of Rent and Sarah
Silverman: Jesus is Magic
, but it was her delightful presence in The
Aristocrats
that gave viewers a cerebral boner.
What’s next? Being both a comedian and an actress means for
a duel attendance in pop culture – look for her to show up on the tele or the
stand-up comedy circuit and a 06 part in School
for Scoundrels
.
