#18. The Reader

Director:
Stephen Daldry
Writers: David Hare (The Hours)

Producers: Anthony Minghella, Sydney Pollack and Scott Rudin
Distributor:The Weinstein Company

The Gist: Based on the Bernard Schlink novel, and scripted by David Hare this tells the tale of fifteen-year-old Michael Berg who is rescued by Hanna, a woman twice his age. In time she becomes his lover–then she inexplicably disappears. When Michael next sees her, he is a young law student, and she is on trial for a hideous crime.

Fact: Along with Revolutionary Road, Kate Winslet will probably nab two Best Actress nods.

See It: Fans of the dearly departed Minghella and Pollack will want to catch their last produced picture.

Release Date/Status?: After great test screenings, the Weinsteins are going full-throttle with an Oscar campaign and a December 12th release date..
