Almodóvar will break out the ‘Hugs’ in 2008

Date:

He is a regualr contributor to the 7th art – not the most prolific filmmaker among us – but he still manages to churn out a feature film every 24 months – I imagine it is all part of the execution, so there is a delightful air of glee here at the IONCINEMA.com offices the moment we get a sense that a new Pedro Almodóvar film production is moments from getting underway.

THR reports (during a press conference for the release of EMI's “B.S.O. Almodovar,” a CD compilation of 29 songs from the director's films) that instead of working on his long gestating project El Piel Que Habito (The Skin I Live In), Spanish helmer Pedro Almodóvar will indeed work Volver starlet Penelope Cruz, Blanca Portillo and Lluis Homar on his new feature to vegin preparation this January. Entitled Broken Hugs (Los Abrazos Rotos) – we are looking at a 2009 world preem at Cannes if all goes well.

Almodovar dabbled with the film noir form in Bad Education – making for one of the more intriguing femme fatale roles in recent film history. The plot details for his new film are vague – what we can tell you is the film noir tale features 5-6 key players in a crazy love story.
