Cranston and Kingsley Nest in Rob Meyer’s ‘Birder’s Guide To Everything’

Date:

Rob Meyer will see his coming-of-age, award-winning short expand into feature film, so we can assume that today’s casting mention of Bryan Cranston and Ben Kingsley are the supporting players needed to push the project along  little further. A Birder’s Guide To Everything, Crossroads Films’ (David Gordon Green’s Snow Angels) next project will start lensing this Summer. Further casting would involve a mixture of pre-teen actors; here is what they might look like.

Written by Meyer and Luke Matheny and based on a feature adaptation of the award-winning short, after spotting what he thinks is an extinct duck, high school sophomore and bird enthusiast David Portnoy persuades his two dorky buddies and the “new girl in school” to join him on a quest to locate the mysterious bird. What begins as a simple and straightforward mission becomes a coming-of-age adventure for all involved, particularly David, who must come to terms with some painful aspects of his family life.

This might be premature thinking, but if production begins this Summer, we can fully expect this to be primed up for a Sundance Film Festival showing, the same lieu where Aquarium, the short film on which this is based on, won an Honorable Mention in 2008. A Birder’s Guide To Everything received Sundance/Alfred P. Sloan Fellowship Grant.
