THE ART OF FIGHTING

The Art Of Fighting is Korean director Shin-Han Sol’s crowd-pleasing meditation on what it means to overcome our fears.

In an effort to learn “the art of fighting”, a kid being bullied at school befriends a middle-aged loner named Oh who displays a ruthless efficiency in matters of self-defense. What he doesn’t realize is that his unpredictable new ally is actually on the lam…

All the best lines go to Oh, who asks anyone who would dare mess with him various takes on, “Do you want to bleed out your anus?” before abruptly dismantling them. Alternately funny, compelling and violent, AOF’s main idea is that to successfully defend yourself is less a matter of technique than psychology.

Above all, AOF is a film about friendship and overcoming the mental roadblocks we erect for ourselves. With a sense of genuine empathy for it’s characters and a terrifically sage performance from Baek Yoon-sik (Oh), AOF may not help you win your next fight, but you’ll have fun imagining it!
