No Moore ‘Fahrenheit” for Weinstein Co.

Moore is saying “bye-bye” to the Weinstein Company for his next feature, a sequel to the 2004 documentary Fahrenheit 9/11, referred to informally as Fahrenheit 9/11 1/2. The fraternal studio giants had previously handled the distribution of both Fahrenheit and the 2007 healthcare doc Sicko.

Moore is saying “bye-bye” to The Weinstein Company for his next feature, a sequel to the 2004 documentary, Fahrenheit 9/11 referred to informally as Fahrenheit 9/11 1/2.  The fraternal studio giants had previously handled the distribution of both Fahrenheit and the 2007 healthcare doc Sicko.  But no more Moore for Harvey and Bob.

Moore is currently over at Cannes to promote the project to potential buyers. The controversial helmer will most likely recieve a warm welcome from the French market, where he has found praise and support before.  In 2004, Moore became the first documentary filmmaker in five decades to win Cannes Film Festival’s Palm D’or for Farhenheit.  And in Sicko, Moore praised the country for their commendable healthcare system. Furthermore, Bowling for Columbine also played at Cannes.

Much about the film is being kept under wraps, however its is known that the film will pick up where the original’s indictment of George W. Bush’s war on terrorism left off, examining the consequences from the past eight years under the Bush administration’s policies; the fall of our president’s popularity, the country’s plummeting economy and the exhuasted continuum of the Iraq war. The doc could potentially play at Cannes next year and is otherwise expectd to be released in mid-2009.

The film will be financed by Overture Films and Paramount Vantage. Moore has reportedly said to begin production on the documentary immediately.
