Up-and-coming actress Ellen Page will star opposite Michael Cera in up-and-coming director Joseph Reitman’s Juno, a coming-of-age comedy that’s being produced by Mandate Pictures, John Malkovich’s Mr. Mudd Productions, and Reitman’s own Hard C. Diablo Cody wrote the script.

The vague storyline revolves around an intelligent teenage (Page) who’s life changes when she unexpectedly becomes pregnant. Sounds like Saved, or She’s Having a Baby, or one of the subplots in Singles, but we’ll hold off on passing judgment due to Reitman’s small but powerful resume and his royal cinematic lineage. Director Brad Silberling was originally planned to helm, but he left the project due to differences over casting.

Ellen Page’s stock is certainly rising. Following her tour-de-force performance in Hard Candy.Candy and a mutant in X-Men 3: The Last Stand, the 19-year old has three more films due for release in 2007: An American Crime, Jack & Diane, and The Tracey Fragments. Michael Cera was previously seen on the TV show Arrested Development, and will provide the voice of a young Howard Stern if the cartoon Howard Stern: The High School Years ever surfaces. As for Jason Reitman, whose father is comedy master Ivan Reitman, Juno will be the follow-up to his much-acclaimed debut feature Thank You For Smoking.
