Page, Reitman join ‘Juno’

Up-and-coming actress Ellen Page will star opposite Michael Cera in up-and-coming director Joseph Reitman’s Juno, a coming-of-age comedy that’s being produced by Mandate Pictures, John Malkovich’s Mr. Mudd Productions, and Reitman’s own Hard C. Diablo Cody wrote the script.

Weinsteins in ‘Besieged Fortress’

The Weinstein co. makes news again, this time broadening its ever-growing scope into the world of nature documentaries with the French film The Besieged Fortress. The film will be released in France later this month by French firm TF1 Intl, with United States and English-speaking territories distributed by the Weinstein Co. in America, with English voiceover instead of subtitles.

Paramount Vantage into ‘Details’

Paramount Vantage has made another acquisition, this time plunging into the horror genre with Details. The film, written by Dan Kay and based on a short story China Mieville, will be produced by Paramount’s Jason Blum and his Blumhouse Productions, along with his colleague Amy Israel. Steven Schneider and Ian Levy will serve as executive producers.

Gyllenhaal, Witherspoon in new “Rendition”

Jake Gyllenhaal and Reese Witherspoon will star in New Line Cinema’s Rendition, a political thriller based in the Middle East. Bill Todman will serve as executive producer over Kelley Sane’s script, with cameras rolling in mid-November. Gavin Hood of Tsotsi fame will direct.

Tillman, Fox Searchlight meet at “Stephon’s Corner”

Fox Searchlight is rendezvousing with State Street Pictures at Stephon’s Corner, an vigilante thriller written by Pat Gilfillan. George Tillman Jr. will be serve as both director and producer, along with partner Bob Teitel, Rene Rigal, and Kathy Lingg producing alongside.
