Some ‘Medicine’ For IFC

IFC wasted no time picking up the romantic drama Medicine for Melancholy, which plays at the LA Film Fest this week, as Variety reports. This is following a plethora of well received screenings as the pic has already made the festival rounds earlier this year, including the San Francisco International Film Fest, SXSW and the Sarasota International Film Festival.

‘Medicine’ is set in the midst of today’s rapidly-gentrified San Francisco, following two African American twenty-somethings after they wake up in the same bed, unaware of what happened the previous night.  The couple is then following throughout the day, as a one night stand turns into an all-day journey.  The pic has been praised for its cinematography and stellar performances by both leads, in addition to its eloquent address of modern social realities.

This will be the debut feature for newcomer Barry Jenkins, writer and director of the pic.  The leads are also relative newcomers, making this the first big break for both Wyatt Cenac (who had a brief stint last year as a correspondent for The Daily Show) and Tracey Higgins.

IFC will release ‘Medicine’ in 2009 both in its theater and through its video-on-demand program.  Check out the trailer below and visit the pic’s website for more info.
