The latest film by acclaimed director Apichatpong Weerasethakul , chronicles his life growing up the son of doctors and life in a hospital environment. Weerasethakul sets the film in two parts, each nearly echoing the other. The first, which follows a female doctor, depicts life in a world gone by. The world Weerasethakul was born to and of which his mother hailed. The second follows a male doctor and is set in the contemporary world, alluding to the changes that take place as life moves forward. The film is typical of Weerasethakul’s fondness for deep meaning art and experimental films and is considered a loving tribute to his parents. The film was nominated for the Golden Lion at this years Venice Film Festival and stars Arkanae Cherkam and Jaruchai Iamaram in the lead roles.

The director has been awarded two prizes from the Cannes Film Festival: Un Certain Regard Prize in 2002 for Blissfully Yours, and Jury Prize in 2004 for Tropical Malady , along with numerous other international awards. In 1999 Weerasethakul formed the production company Kick the Machine in order to pursue his experimental and independent visions.
