The Baster Finds a Donor in Miramax

Date:

The addition of Jeff Goldblum and Patrick Wilson along with the North American rights pick up from Miramax Films are part of a double announcement from the set of Will Speck and Josh Gordon‘s sophomore directing gig. The Baster, a Mandate Pictures’ rom com just began filming this week.

Scripted by Allan Loeb, this is based on Jeffrey Eugenides’ short story which was first published in The New Yorker. This centers on a neurotic and insecure man named Wally (Jason Bateman) who finds out his best friend Kassie (Jennifer Aniston) wants to have a child through artificial insemination. He surreptitiously replaces her donor’s semen with his own and is then forced to live with the secret that he is the child’s real father. Wilson will play the genetically superior sperm donor that Kassie originally selects. Goldblum will portray Wally’s boss.

The project was originally set up with Columbia Pictures and had Peter and Bobby Farrelly on board to direct.
