TIFF 2010 Buyer’s Club: #9. Mike Mills’ Beginners

Date:

#9. Beginners

The GistEwan McGregor plays a young man rocked by two announcements from his elderly father (Christopher Plummer)…one, that he has terminal cancer, and two, that he’s coming out of the closet. Also stars: Melanie Laurent and Goran Visnjic.

Mike Mills' Beginners

Director: Mike Mills — Sales Agent: TBD

Selling Point: If we do the math: you’ve got cancer, plus senior coming out of the closest from the director who gave us Thumbsucker. If this dramedy packs an emotional wallop and McGregor brews up a magnifying performance, we could have something that gets mentioned during awards.

Suited For: An Indie distributor who has experience of accentuating qualities of an American indie film.

The distinctive mole on her nose and her dark sultry eyes rose off the page and appeared in front of me, smoking and speaking with a French accent.
