TIFF 2011 Buyer’s Club: #2. Tanya Wexler’s Hysteria

Date:

#2. Hysteria
The Gist: Based on a true story, set in Victorian England about the invention of the first vibrator. Victorian England, 1880. Mortimer Granville, a young doctor sick of his colleagues’ medieval practices, starts working for Dr Dalrymple, who treats women’s “hysteria” by offering them intimate manual relief… Demand is so great that Mortimer fears for the use of his hands.

Director: Tanya Wexler (Last feature was 2001’s Ball of the House)
Sales Agent: Untitled Entertainment
Selling Point/Suited For: With the foul sounding idea of goofy male doctors playing with the most intimate parts of women, this costumey ensemble comedy choose the perfect lieu to preem this laugher as Toronto’s baby boomer generation should be rolling in the aisles and giving this a standing or sitting O… pun intended. The distributor who picks this up will either be SPC or the company that bids higher than SPC.
